The Difference between Being Grounded and Going to Ground
Albert Einstein famously said “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.”
For much the same reason we ground electricity, humans benefit from being grounded. It prevents us from shock, disruption, unnecessary drama and stress, because we feel secure and safe given our ability to see how our understanding of a situation is in line with truth that applies to all human beings.
Here’s an example. My phone rang as I was shopping; it was my husband telling me someone had hit my car in a nearby parking lot. I experienced a moment of fear, then a moment of frustration, then as I “found” my ground, I felt calm. Laughing, I told the clerk I was being summoned to the parking lot, paid my tab and walked over. Once there I found a police officer with a very nervous young man. The damage was so minute, the car was driveable, and instead of losing my temper, I looked at the young man and thanked him for doing the right thing. I kept the tone light as we exchanged insurance information. He was stressed out already, and my instinct was to calm him, because the truth of the matter was, this was a minor inconvenience. No one got hurt. That’s a universal grounding truth - things don’t matter, human life matters.
Life throws us curve balls, we have obstacles to overcome and dilemmas galore. Save your energy for the ones that matter most. Above all, be human. Grounding is an important quality of being human, and learning to see universal truth is where you start. Are you constantly going down rabbit holes?
